{"id":421,"date":"2021-01-09T03:39:01","date_gmt":"2021-01-09T03:39:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=421"},"modified":"2025-11-24T14:20:27","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T14:20:27","slug":"compromise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=421","title":{"rendered":"The Essentials of Compromise\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Compromise is one of the fundamentals of civilized society.\u00a0 It is also essential in every type of organization from the United Nations to the family.\u00a0 In fact, compromise is necessary whenever there are two human beings who are attempting to accomplish anything together, especially a married couple.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">It is unreasonable, and rather selfish, to think that we can always have things our way.\u00a0 In fact, we should expect to make compromises throughout our lives.\u00a0 The following are essential guidelines that will allow us to make proper compromises without surrendering what is precious to us.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Always compromise, unless it is a compromise of our values.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">One of the most difficult issues in compromise is determining when we are about to cross the line of violating our core values.\u00a0 As Mahatma Gandhi said, \u201cAll compromise is based on give and take, but there can be no give and take on fundamentals. Any compromise on mere fundamentals is a surrender.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">In order avoid compromising our fundamental values, we must determine what our values are and be able to clearly define how those values apply to everyday life.\u00a0 We must also have the strength to not surrender when those values are challenged.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Determine that the compromise will be beneficial to all concerned.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">John F. Kennedy reminded us of the key process to keep government working in behalf of the country.\u00a0 \u201cLet us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">This same concept must apply in our businesses, our families and in our dealings with other nations.\u00a0 We must abandon our selfishness and look for the \u201cright answer.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Readily compromise if the outcome isn\u2019t all that important.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Examples from family life would be; what type of ice cream we buy, which family-friendly TV show to watch, how our children spend the discretionary money they have earned, if our daughters want to wear glitter on their face, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We control our kids physically when they are young and financially when they are older.\u00a0 If we want our kids to grow up to be responsible adults, we need to give them opportunity to make their own decisions.\u00a0 This will be a compromise.\u00a0 Be assured that they will make a lot of bad choices, but we need to allow them to choose and fail, as long as the consequences are not serious.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Realize that compromise typically produces two parties that are equally dissatisfied with the outcome.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Compromise is a key component in a successful marriage.\u00a0 Anyone who thinks that their spouse should always do things their way is hallucinating, unless they purposely married a doormat.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">When couples compromise, at least they will know that they respect each other.\u00a0 We can take comfort in the fact that a compromise is a small step forward in the direction of having things the way we want.\u00a0 This concept equally applies to nations negotiating trade agreements.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Successful compromise is only possible when both parties have integrity.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A compromise struck with another party that does not have integrity is just the beginning of a larger conflict.\u00a0 Lasting compromises only occur when each party knows that the other can be trusted.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Jim Turley, former chairman and CEO of Ernst &amp; Young, said \u201cAny great leader I have ever met has an unshakable bedrock of integrity.\u00a0 Everything else they do is built on that foundation.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Finally, these words from Zig Ziglar are of utmost importance.\u00a0 \u201cBe careful not to compromise what you want most for what you want now.\u201d\u00a0 Marriages, nations, careers and lives have been destroyed from making this type of compromise.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\/\/www.pinterest.com\/pin\/create\/button\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2Fphotos%2Fkentbrew%2F6851755809%2F&amp;media=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7027%2F6851755809_df5b2051c9_z.jpg&amp;description=Next%20stop%3A%20Pinterest\" data-pin-do=\"buttonPin\" data-pin-config=\"above\"><img src=\"\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/images\/pidgets\/pinit_fg_en_rect_gray_20.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<!-- Please call pinit.js only once per page --><br \/>\n<script src=\"\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/js\/pinit.js\" async=\"\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Compromise is one of the fundamentals of civilized society.\u00a0 It is also essential in every type of organization from the United Nations to the family.\u00a0 In fact, compromise is necessary whenever there are two human beings who are attempting to accomplish anything together, especially a married couple.
