{"id":664,"date":"2021-01-23T22:38:58","date_gmt":"2021-01-23T22:38:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=664"},"modified":"2025-11-24T14:17:16","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T14:17:16","slug":"your-words-label-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=664","title":{"rendered":"Your Words Label You\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16pt;\"><br \/>\nPygmalion was a sculptor in Greek mythology who fell in love with a statue of a woman he had carved.\u00a0 The ivory statue was transformed into a human being by the goddess Athena to be Pygmalion\u2019s wife.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16pt;\">The award winning Broadway play and film, <em>My Fair Lady<\/em>, was based on the play <em>Pygmalion<\/em> by George Bernard Shaw.\u00a0 In <em>My Fair Lady<\/em>, a girl from the gutter is transformed into a princess by Henry Higgins, a professor of phonetics.\u00a0 This transformation was not magic.\u00a0 It was a transformation of how she saw herself and others saw her based on the way she spoke.\u00a0 As professor Henry Higgins sings, \u201cAn Englishman&#8217;s way of speaking absolutely classifies him.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Whether we like it or not, the same is true today.\u00a0 When you begin to speak, you are classifying yourself, creating your own label.\u00a0 Your speech is your personal advertisement of how you want others to see you.\u00a0 It might not be totally accurate but it is the billboard of yourself that you have erected.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Even in our society where there seems to be nothing sacred and where moral boundaries are quickly eroding, crude and vulgar language is still a sign of who you are.\u00a0 Regardless of your title, profanity damages your authority and reputation.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Most intuitively agree with this explanation, \u201cProfanity is the effort of a feeble mind to express itself forcibly\u201d &#8211; Spencer W. Kimball. \u00a0If it takes profanity to make your point, then you are unable to express yourself adequately.\u00a0 If don\u2019t have a feeble mind, then you are using profanity because you lack the cultural, legal or charismatic authority to persuade others.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16pt;\">The following are five\u00a0ways that the use of crude or vulgar language by <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=346\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bosses<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=225\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">parents<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=329\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coaches<\/a><\/span>, foremen, etc. degrades your leadership.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Crudeness is often associated the unlearned and uncultured. You might have many advanced degrees but when you use profanity, you are classified with those who speak as if the f-bomb is the only adjective they know. Some say that profanity is normal language for those in certain types of jobs.\u00a0 If you aspire to be more that \u201cjust one of the boys,\u201d speak like a man or woman of distinction.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Using filthy language shows a lack of respect for oneself and all who are within earshot. It makes others uncomfortable to be subjected to such a display of boorishness.\u00a0 People try to protect their children from profanity because they desire to protect their children\u2019s innocence and virtue.\u00a0 Virtue in adults is just as valuable and no one deserves to be assaulted with bad language. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Swearing is a sign of aggressiveness. Otherwise dignified people will launch into profanity when they are angry. In the workplace, this type of behavior could be cause for termination for an employee, or a lawsuit if it is a boss who is creating a <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=598\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hostile work environment<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0 Such aggressive behavior is not motivating at work, on the ball field or in the home.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Profanity is not the sign of someone who is in control of him\/her self. It is juvenile and it is what juveniles do to show that they do not have to follow rules.\u00a0 One of my favorite shows is <em>The Profit<\/em>, with Marcus Lemonis.\u00a0 Lemonis shows his remarkable talent helping businesses to succeed using his formula of \u201cPeople, Process and Product.\u201d\u00a0 My only criticism of his method is that when he is in a confrontational situation, he reverts to the use of profanity to make his point.\u00a0 This is not a good process to use with people to sell a product.\u00a0 Self-control is always the best way to deal with others.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16pt;\">It is obvious that Americans are not very concerned about offending God. Even though many believe in the Ten Commandments, they ignore the commandment that prohibits taking the name of the Lord in vain.\u00a0 In today\u2019s society, no one would use the N-word in polite society but using the name of God in vain is as commonplace as saying \u201clettuce.\u201d\u00a0 Let me be very clear, taking the name of God is vain is offensive to God and to those who worship Him. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16pt;\">The way you speak classifies you.\u00a0 By elevating your language and avoiding profanity, you transform yourself as a boss, a parent, a coach or a foreman.\u00a0 You will have more respect for yourself and those you lead will have more respect for you.\u00a0 You label yourself as a better person.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><a href=\"\/\/www.pinterest.com\/pin\/create\/button\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2Fphotos%2Fkentbrew%2F6851755809%2F&amp;media=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7027%2F6851755809_df5b2051c9_z.jpg&amp;description=Next%20stop%3A%20Pinterest\" data-pin-do=\"buttonPin\" data-pin-config=\"above\"><img src=\"\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/images\/pidgets\/pinit_fg_en_rect_gray_20.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pygmalion was a sculptor in Greek mythology who fell in love with a statue of a woman he had carved.\u00a0 The ivory statue was transformed into a human being by the goddess Athena to be Pygmalion\u2019s wife.
