font-size: 16pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/allred10.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/A90.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a>Good health is necessary for peak performance in any endeavor.\u00a0 If you are a <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=346\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CEO<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=225\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">parent<\/a><\/span>, minister or Little League coach, you will accomplish more if you feel well.\u00a0 I remember being in a meeting over thirty years ago and the speaker said, \u201cYou are not much use to God in helping his children if you are dead.\u201d\u00a0 That was a wake-up call!\u00a0 I came home and started a jogging regimen the next morning and have not stopped.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Most would agree that maintaining good health is a worthy goal.\u00a0 The problem is that health problems typically sneak up on us so slowly that we delay making healthy choices until we have a serious issue.\u00a0 Be proactive and begin a healthier lifestyle today.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">The following are some ideas to help motivate you to identify what you might change for better H.E.A.L.T.H:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20pt;\">H<\/span>appiness<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">University of Illinois professor emeritus of psychology Ed Diener, a senior scientist for the Gallup Organization, of Princeton, N.J., led a team that analyzed more than 160 long-term studies of human subjects, experimental human and animal trials, and studies that evaluate the health status of people stressed by natural events.\u00a0 He is quoted in the journal <em>Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being<\/em> as saying, \u201cThe overwhelming majority of studies support the conclusion that happiness is associated with health and longevity.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Their review found \u201cclear and compelling evidence\u201d that \u2013 all else being equal \u2013 happy people tend to live longer and experience better health than their unhappy peers.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Shawn Achor, author of New York Times bestseller, \u201cThe Happiness Advantage,\u201d and former Harvard University professor writes that studies have shown the following daily activities improve our level of <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=178\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">happiness<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Recall three things you\u2019re grateful for<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Journal a positive thing each day<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Exercise<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Meditate<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Perform a random act of kindness.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Illness eventually comes to almost all people.\u00a0 It is a part of life and must be dealt with rationally and with as much faith and hope as possible.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t help to complain.\u00a0 In fact, it is harmful.\u00a0 Living as normally and happily as possible is better for everyone.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20pt;\">E<\/span>xercise<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states these facts: \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u201cTo lose weight, you must use up more calories than you take in.\u201d \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u201dPeople who have lost weight and kept it off typically engage in 60\u201490 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity most days of the week.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Of course, it is easier said than done.\u00a0 However, it will not become a burden if you:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Find an activity you enjoy<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Exercise with someone whose company you enjoy<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Set aside a regular time to exercise<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">I began jogging three miles a day, three to four days a week in my twenties.\u00a0 I have continued that regimen but as I got older I increased the number of days and decreased the speed to a brisk walk.\u00a0 The net effect is the same, burning calories.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Ron Friedman, identified in his article \u201cRegular Exercise Is Part of Your Job,\u201d in the Harvard Business Review, October 3, 2014, the following side benefits:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Improved concentration<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Sharper memory<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Faster learning<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Prolonged mental stamina<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Enhanced creativity<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Lower stress<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20pt;\">A<\/span>ppetite Control<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Even though there is a new fad diet each month that some doctor or movie star endorses, there is only one that works.\u00a0 Eat less, exercise more.\u00a0 If that were not true, Oprah Winfrey would be skinny.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">The CDC states, \u201cObesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death.\u201d\u00a0 There is no reputable evidence that vegetarian or vegan diets are better for humans.\u00a0 There is also no evidence that nutritional supplements are as healthy as proper food choices.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">The CDC guidelines are as follows:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Enjoy your food, but eat less.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Avoid oversized portions.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Make half your plate fruits and vegetables.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Switch to fat-free or low-fat (1%) milk.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Compare sodium in foods and choose the foods with lower numbers.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Drink water instead of sugary drinks.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">My wife is the mother of nine children and she has always looked great.\u00a0 This is her advice. \u201cTo lose weight and not make your body think you are starving \u2013 lose 5 to 8 pounds a season. That\u2019s 20 to 30 pounds a year. You won\u2019t have to buy so many new clothes and you go slow enough your body can get a new set point. You only need to tweak your diet or exercise program a little to lose 1 to 2 pounds a month. \u00a0To begin, I increased exercise by one day per week. Next, I ate an apple or had a drink of water when I started eating everything in sight.\u00a0 Also, eat every four hours so your blood sugar doesn\u2019t get so low you have to eat a lot.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20pt;\">L<\/span>oving Relationships<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Our loving relationships with family and friends are more <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=634\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fulfilling<\/a><\/span> than wealth, jobs, degrees, honors, fame, or anything else.\u00a0 They are also essential to good health.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">According to a Harvard Medical School publication, dated December 1, 2010, \u201cSocial connections like these not only give us pleasure, they also influence our long-term health in ways every bit as powerful as adequate sleep, a good diet, and not smoking. Dozens of studies have shown that people who have satisfying relationships with family, friends, and their community are happier, have fewer health problems, and live\u00a0longer.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">The U.S. government\u2019s National Institutes of Health states this, \u201cFor example, Berkman and Syme (1979) showed that the risk of death among men and women with the fewest social ties was more than twice as high as the risk for adults with the most social ties. Moreover, this finding held even when socioeconomic status, health behaviors, and other variables that might influence mortality, were taken into account. Social ties also reduce mortality risk among adults with documented medical conditions. For instance, Brummett and colleagues (2001) found that, among adults with coronary artery disease, the socially isolated had a risk of subsequent cardiac death 2.4 times greater than their more socially connected peers.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">The message is &#8211; if you are fighting with your brother or have a grudge against your neighbor, stop it!\u00a0 For the sake of your good health, be a better friend, neighbor and relative.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20pt;\">T<\/span>ime for Rest<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Sleep deprivation has long been used to debilitate a captured enemy.\u00a0 Don\u2019t debilitate yourself.\u00a0 Your good health depends on getting sufficient sleep, typically 7 \u2013 8 hours every day for adults.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">The National Sleep Foundation recommends the following to improve your sleep hygiene:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Go to bed at the same time each night and rise at the same time each morning.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Make sure your bedroom is a quiet and dark.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Make sure your bedroom is neither too hot nor too cold.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Make sure your bed is comfortable.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Do not use your bed for reading, watching TV, listening to music, etc.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Remove all TVs, computers, and other &#8220;gadgets&#8221; from the bedroom.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Avoid large meals before bedtime.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20pt;\">H<\/span>abit Change<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Nothing is more important to good health than eliminating bad health habits.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">The CDC states, \u201cMore than 10 times as many U.S. citizens have died prematurely from cigarette smoking than have died in all the wars fought by the United States during its history.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">\u201cAbuse of tobacco, <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=396\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alcohol, and illicit drugs<\/a><\/span> is costly to our Nation, exacting more than $700 billion annually in costs related to crime, lost work productivity and health care,\u201d according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">The personal costs of substance abuse, include the following:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Drunk driving deaths<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Automobile accidents<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Unwanted pregnancy<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Life destroying alcoholism \/ cancer \/ disease<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Divorce<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Child and spousal abuse<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Loss of a job<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Loss of the trust of ones colleagues<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Saying things that should never have been said<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Wasted time, wasted money and wasted lives<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">Good H.E.A.L.T.H. is important to everyone so we can do the things we want to do, for our self-image and how others perceive us, for our longevity, our effectiveness at work and at home and for the enjoyment we get from every day of life.\u00a0 Begin today to improve your own.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 16pt;\">If you want to help others, don&#8217;t continually badger them.\u00a0 They know better than anyone that they have a problem.\u00a0 They will ask for help when they want it if we let them know that we will help.\u00a0 Until they ask, we should set a good example by exercising regularly, smiling, being kind, getting rid of unhealthy habits and eating healthy.\u00a0 Most importantly, be good and do good.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;
