{"id":318,"date":"2021-01-26T16:58:57","date_gmt":"2021-01-26T16:58:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=318"},"modified":"2025-11-24T14:14:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T14:14:20","slug":"compassion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=318","title":{"rendered":"Compassion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Compassion is one of the great virtues of all major religious of the world.\u00a0 Even non-religious associations typically embrace compassion because compassion is basic to being a fully-developed human being.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Parents have a responsibility to teach compassion to their children, not only to perpetuate a civilized society, but also so their children will be able to enjoy the society of others and be happy.\u00a0 Compassion is an active form of love that is expressed by being aware of the needs of others and doing what you can to meet those needs.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The following are the critical concepts of compassion:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a01. \u00a0Acts of compassion make us feel good<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cHappiness and peace will come to earth only as the light of love and human compassion enter the souls of men.\u201d &#8211; David O. McKay<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Shawn Achor, winner of over a dozen distinguished teaching awards at Harvard University and author of <em>The Happiness Advantage<\/em> states, \u201cA long line of empirical research, including one study of over 2,000 people, has shown that acts of altruism\u2014giving to friends and strangers alike\u2014decrease stress and strongly contribute to enhanced mental health\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">We really don\u2019t need empirical research to know that doing good makes us feel good.\u00a0 It is intuitive and everyone who does it knows it.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">2. \u00a0Compassion helps us connect with other humans<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cCompassion automatically invites you to relate with people because you no longer regard people as a drain on your energy.\u201d &#8211; Chogyam Trungpa<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">We all know people who show kindness and compassion to those around them.\u00a0 These people are universally liked and admired.\u00a0 We are drawn to these people because of how they make us feel.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">3. \u00a0Compassion is the basis of civilized society<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI can do no other than be reverent before everything that is called life. I can do no other than to have compassion for all that is called life. That is the beginning and the foundation of all ethics.\u201d &#8211; Albert Schweitzer<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Wherever groups of people live together in a community, compassion must exist in order create an attitude of cooperation.\u00a0 Since tragedy is a normal part of the human condition, demonstrations of compassion bond people in the society to one another.\u00a0 Even the rich and powerful have need of compassion.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The more civilized the society, the more compassion is shown for the weak and those who are unlike the norm.\u00a0 The most advanced societies are those that take care of their own and then reach out to all that need help.\u00a0 Although not perfect, the United States of America has typically been one of those societies.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Compassion and tolerance, however, do not mean an acceptance of evil or anti-social behavior. We must teach our children to love all people, while abhorring evil, wherever it manifests itself.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">4. \u00a0Compassion must be expressed<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cWhether one believes in a religion or not, and whether one believes in rebirth or not, there isn&#8217;t anyone who doesn&#8217;t appreciate kindness and compassion.\u201d &#8211; Dalai Lama<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">We all appreciate an act of kindness, a supportive comment, or even just a kind smile.\u00a0 It is impossible to be compassionate and ignore others.\u00a0\u00a0 Those who \u201cRemember the little things\u201d really understand compassion.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Often we will see someone having difficulty and say to ourselves, \u201cI wish there was something I could do, but I don\u2019t know that person very well\u201d, or \u201cSomeone else is taking care of their needs\u201d or, \u201cI don\u2019t want to bother them at this time because they are already so busy.\u201d\u00a0 So, we do nothing.\u00a0\u00a0 Consider Proverbs 3:27, \u201cWithhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">5. \u00a0Compassion requires sacrifice<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cTrue compassion means not only feeling another&#8217;s pain but also being moved to help relieve it.\u201d &#8211; Daniel Goleman<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">It isn&#8217;t easy to be compassionate because it requires effort on our part.\u00a0 Passivity and compassion are not good companions.\u00a0 My wife is a wonderful example of service.\u00a0 Even while raising our nine children, she would consistently look for opportunities to help someone in need by delivering a home cooked meal, making a phone call or sending a note of appreciation and encouragement.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Parents can use these five concepts to help teach their children about compassion, thus bringing joy to their children, to their entire family and to the society where their family lives.\u00a0 However, when parents also model compassionate behavior, their children are much more likely to learn this essential virtue. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\/\/www.pinterest.com\/pin\/create\/button\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2Fphotos%2Fkentbrew%2F6851755809%2F&amp;media=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7027%2F6851755809_df5b2051c9_z.jpg&amp;description=Next%20stop%3A%20Pinterest\" data-pin-do=\"buttonPin\" data-pin-config=\"above\"><img src=\"\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/images\/pidgets\/pinit_fg_en_rect_gray_20.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/js\/pinit.js\" async=\"\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Compassion is one of the great virtues of all major religious of the world.\u00a0 Even non-religious associations typically embrace compassion because compassion is basic to being a fully-developed human being.
