{"id":225,"date":"2021-02-06T03:50:42","date_gmt":"2021-02-06T03:50:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=225"},"modified":"2025-11-24T14:03:39","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T14:03:39","slug":"theories-of-parenting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/allred10.com\/?p=225","title":{"rendered":"Theories of Parenting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Before I was married I had three theories about raising children.\u00a0 Now I have three children and no theories.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(1647-1680)<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Having children is a great way to refute naive opinions of how to properly raise a child.\u00a0 Children are people and people are different.\u00a0 Each situation is different.\u00a0 Therefore, there is no patently correct answer to every child or every situation.\u00a0 However, there are some underlying truths that never change.\u00a0 These must be the bedrock of our approach to unique people in unique situations.\u00a0 I am convinced that the following are the foundation upon which we must build our family, if we are to be successful in creating a legacy of a happy family.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Eliminate pride in our relationships.\u00a0 Most loving parents intuitively know how to raise their children.\u00a0 The problems arise when we stop listening to our hearts and start satisfying our own pride and selfishness.\u00a0 Most marriages fail and most parents lose touch with their kids because of pride and selfishness.\u00a0 Rather than trying to solve a problem in a loving manner, many times we harden our hearts and act in a way that only serves to protect our ego.\u00a0 I can write authoritatively on this subject because I do it with greater frequency that I care to admit.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Understand the importance of a father and mother role model.\u00a0 Thankfully, mothers usually act in the best interest of their children.\u00a0 Many children do not have an attentive father, because he is absent or he is involved in other activities that he considers to be more important.\u00a0 This role needs to be filled by someone, even if it is an uncle, church leader, Scoutmaster, family friend, etc. Having a good father and mother role model will increase the likelihood that the child will have the perspective necessary to be a successful spouse, parent and person.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Teach our children with love.\u00a0 Nothing is more important than love in any human relationship.\u00a0 Loving our children comes naturally to most parents.\u00a0 To love is not to compromise the truth, nor to spoil or coddle, nor to condone inappropriate behavior.\u00a0 We follow the example of Jesus Christ when we love the sinner but condemn the sin.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The important thing to remember is to convert the love we feel into what we do and say. \u00a0Our children will tolerate a lot of our mistakes if they know that we love them. \u00a0We have all seen wayward children return to goodness after realizing that their parents still loved them in spite of their bad behavior. \u00a0They usually do not come back if the parents do not reach out to them with love.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cThe home is the first and most effective place for children to learn the\u00a0<\/span>lessons of<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">life: truth, honor, virtue, self-control; the value of education, honest work, and the purpose and privilege of life. Nothing can take the place of home in rearing and teaching children, and no other success can compensate for failure <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">in the home\u201d \u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">David O.
